19 Years Of "Kinda Love"

🦋 It’s 19 years ago today since Darius released “Kinda Love”.

“Kinda Love” was the first single to be released from Darius’ second album, “Live Twice”. It was released on 18th October 2004 and peaked at number 8 in the UK charts and number 2 in the Scottish chart.

Darius said that "Kinda Love" is about the insecurity you feel when you are in love.

"It's kinda about love! It's about the insecurity you feel when you're in love with someone. Just a little moment with them makes your day."

His youngest brother, Cyrus, chose it as the first song to be released from the album.

At the time the song was released Darius told Newsround:

"My brother Cyrus is nine-years-old and is learning to play the drums. I actually asked him which song I should release first. He said Kinda Love cos it's catchy and the record company agreed. He was also the one that told me to get rid of the ponytail and the goatee. He should be my manager!"

The single was released on 2 CDs and a DVD. It was the first single of Darius' to be released on a DVD and not to have a cassette released.

The single had a collection of B-sides including an exclusive track on the DVD single.

'Kinda Love' is currently Darius' fourth most popular track on Spotify and as of October 2023 has been streamed over 155,000 times.

The video for 'Kinda Love' was filmed in Spain and stars Natasha Henstridge. The story line of the video is based on a scene from the Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet film, 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'.

Talking about running over sand dunes during the filming Darius said "I landed flat on my face a couple of times. There was some quicksand only 10 feet away.

One of the cameramen lost his tripod - he turned around and it was sinking down and then it was gone."
