It's 21 years ago today since Darius released "Rushes".

It was his second single to be released and came from his debut album "Dive In". It was released on 25th November 2002, and was pushed back a week by Darius who didn't want it's release to effect the sales for the BBC's Children In Need single which Will Young had recorded that year.

"Rushes" did well and reached number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. At the time of it's release Darius told Newsround the full story behind the song, which he wrote on the back of a bus ticket when he was just 16 years old.

It's based on a girl who got on his bus two stops after him who he fancied so much that he got a rush of blood to the head every time that he saw her. But sadly for Darius by the time he had plucked up the courage to speak to her she'd left the country.

He said: "I got on the bus on the last day of school and she wasn't there. "And when I asked around she'd disappeared off to Germany - her dad had got a job and she'd gone. I was gutted!"

Notable live performances of the song occurred on the Smash Hits Tour at arenas in the UK throughout Autumn 2002 as well as on TV shows Children In Need, Top Of The Pops and CD:UK.

The song also formed part of the set list for Darius' 2003 "Dive In" tour and at various gigs such as Live And Loud following on from it's release.

The video for "Rushes" was shot in LA in the USA. In the video, Darius arrives home on a motorbike, goes up to his apartment and then arranges to meet his band members for a gig later that day where he will see the girl that he's in love with. He gets ready for the gig and then goes out to meet his band members. The band members shown in the video were Darius' band members at that time Karl Brazil, Deeral, and Greg Haley. They travel to the gig, speeding through a tunnel, but are then held up by traffic, eventually coming to a standstill. To get to the gig on time they get out of their car and walk the rest of the way. The band and Darius then perform the gig in front of an audience.

Darius later revealed that he rode the motorbike in the video without a license to do so and joked that he was only telling people as he was back home in the UK now.

'Rushes' was a hit with the pop magazines at the time.

BBC Music's reviewer called "Rushes"

"a rich, chugging, rock-tinged little ditty. And a chorus backed by a vein of Celtic fiddles is an electrifying treat."

Smash Hits gave it five stars adding "Girls, if you aren't smitten by those big brown eyes and that soft accent yet, you must be completely bonkers. The best thing to come out of a reality television show ever, Darius just keeps getting better and better."

The single was released on 2 CDs and a cassette.

Two new songs written by Darius were included on the releases. They were "Tear Run Dry" and "Freefall".

An acoustic version of "Rushes" and a remix of "Colourblind" by 8 Jam were also on the releases.

The promo video was also released on the 'enhanced' CD along with a poster booklet.
