Jackie Bird pays tribute to Darius ahead of Children In Need

🦋 Darius’ friend TV presenter Jackie Bird paid tribute to him on Friday in an article about hosting Children In Need which was published in The Daily Record.

Sharing her memories she said:

"I still can't believe lovely Darius is gone. He was a great big nice hunk of a man and he threw himself into the chaos of live Children In Need presenting. He didn't have any telly training and had no clue what was happening but was just great to work with.

"At the time he was a massive name as his single Colourblind had just gone to No.1 but he didn't think twice about supporting Children in Need. He was so busy but there he was co-hosting the show.

Darius did so much good work for charity. Last time I saw him was before Covid at a Christmas Concert for Cancer Research UK in Glasgow Cathedral. He was his usual charming and chatty self."

"I'm still in shock that he's passed away. It's a real jaw dropper - an absolute tragedy. When I clip on my mic for this year's show I will be sparing a thought for him and his family.

"Between my poignant memories of Darius and the heartbreaking films of the children the charity has helped I will have to have my waterproof mascara at the ready and plenty of tissues hidden.”
